Women Heroes Exhibition

The Women Heroes of World War I and the War of Independence Exhibition, featuring artifacts from the Hisart Live History Museum collection, opened at the Grand National Assembly of Turkey’s Honor Hall for International Women’s Day on March 8 The ceremony was attended by Speaker Numan Kurtulmuş, Ankara Governor Vasip Şahin, Deputy Minister of Culture and Tourism Batuhan Mumcu, Turkey’s first female general, Brigadier General Özlem Yılmaz, and many distinguished guests.

Speaker Kurtulmuş honored the sacrifices of women in the War of Independence, calling them the “invisible heroes of our national struggle.” Hisart Museum Founder Nejat Çuhadaroğlu also emphasized their crucial wartime roles.

The exhibition showcases over 200 artifacts, including photographs of Lieutenant Kara Fatma and Halide Onbaşı, medals of Turkey’s first nurse Safiye Hüseyin Elbi, and documents from the Hilal-i Ahmer (Red Crescent).
